Support Small Business: The Produce Box

American Express OPEN and Facebook have selected The Produce Box, a locally-grown produce delivery company, as one of 10 Finalists in the 2nd annual small business competition.

The Produce Box, which started in the home of stay-at-home mom, Courtney Tellefsen, five years ago, has now grown to help more than 40 North Carolina farmers deliver their fresh produce to front porches across the Triangle, Wilmington and Winston-Salem, N.C.

“We are so delighted to be selected as a finalist in ‘Big Break,’” says Ms. Tellefsen, “as it is always nice to be recognized for what we love to do: help more people to eat healthy and support our local farming community.”

American Express OPEN and Facebook representatives chose The Produce Box from a pool of over 12,000 nationwide entries as a finalist. The “Big Break For Small Business” contest was designed to transform and recognize the way small businesses engage with customers on-line.

There will be 5 winners selected by a round of public on-line voting on Facebook from August 20-31. People can vote once per day now through the August 31 deadline.

Each winner will receive $25,000 to aid business growth, plus a visit from American Express OPEN and Facebook for a one-on-one strategy session to put it all into action.

Voting takes place at www.facebook.com/OPEN, where the Produce Box entry video can also be seen.

“We’re so thankful for our members around the area and a really dedicated team that helps us to make a difference in building and promoting a more sustainable local food system,” says Tellefsen.
