The organizers at Operation North State join us today to share their mission and ask for support.
Operation North State’s goal is to send 1,500 Christmas gift boxes filled with North Carolina products/goodies to North Carolina’s deployed troops. It’s the only such Christmas gift box being offered by a military support organization in North Carolina. In 2010, the project was a huge success as we sent 500 Christmas gift boxes containing 14 NC items; this year, we are up to 26 NC items and growing.

How you can help:
Donate if you can. A gift box’s contents have a retail value of $142, including $12.50 for shipping. Through the generous donations of both items and special pricing, we have lowered the cost per box to $35, including shipping. There are so many ways to assist financially: sponsor a box or two, challenge your friends, family and co-workers to sponsor boxes, get your clubs, services organizations, employers, Sunday schools classes involved.
We still need a few items for the Christmas gift boxes. We need pens/pencils, copy paper and plain white envelopes.
We may need assistance transporting some items that will be going in the gift boxes from the contributor’s location to our warehouse. Even though our staff and executives are all volunteers, we still have sizeable transportation costs. It would be great if we could secure assistance with this expense in the near future. Additionally, we lack a vehicle that can transport all 1,500 of some items. A van would be ideal.
Help spread the word. We have attended several festivals and events around the state in recent months. We have talked to thousands of individuals, companies and organizations. Support for Operation North State has exploded. Not bad considering we are just eleven months old.
Provide us the names of deployed troops to receive a Christmas gift box. There is NO CHARGE to submit a name(s). We all know someone (family, friends, church, work, organizations) who is deployed. "Deployed" to Operation North State means that the troop will not be home in North Carolina with his/her loved-ones the Christmas. If you have a long list of recipients to provide us, you can email or mail the names to us instead of entering them online.

An excellent cause - thanks for spreading the word. Kudos to all donors and the folks at Operation North State by supporting our brave troops, and sending them a little bit of home.
