Kathy Worm is chronicling the full renovation of her Raleigh kitchen. Read her previous posts to see "before" picturesdesigner blueprintsdecision time, and demo drama!

Pinch me. I am not sure that I am awake. I must be dreaming: The kitchen that I have dreamed of my entire married life has now become a reality. I walk into it every morning and wonder how I got transported to somebody else’s beach house overnight. This can’t be mine. Oh. But wait a minute. It is.

After about 10 weeks of contractors in and out of our house at all hours, Sam Barrow of Lane Bradford Construction handed me the keys to the kingdom. All that hard work and planning had finally paid off. The kitchen was exactly what I wanted. How Sam and Rebecca Pace of Rebecca Pace Design and BeyondBlue Interiors ever managed to really get inside my head and figure out what I had in mind is beyond me. But they did it.

I love hanging out in it and find myself just standing in disbelief. The kitchen has re-ignited my cooking passion and I have been reading cookbooks and magazines like crazy. I have started to learn to use the new appliances, although I am grateful that the one with the chip born in his head (i.e. my teenage son) is around to help me figure it all out. Now that it is all organized and neat, I really want to keep it clean and simple. If I had known how much better I would feel walking into my house, I would have done this sooner. But there is something to be said for waiting. I knew what I really wanted. And the pleasure from that delayed gratification tastes really sweet.
