The Moravian Star has been a staple in holiday décor for almost 200 years, donning the tops of Christmas trees and lighting front porches throughout the world during the month of December.
As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of SavorNC this Thanksgiving, our staff looks back with true gratitude. Here are a few of the things topping our lists:
Holiday menus and recipes are easy to find during this time of year. From pumpkin pie to deep fried turkey, I get a little overwhelmed by the number of options to choose from when entertaining. So I’ve chosen to sit this one out.
I believe we can all agree that pumpkin pie is a quintessential Thanksgiving dessert. In fact, when you think about Thanksgiving desserts, pumpkin pie is usually at the top of that list — and it’s at the top of my list as well.
Well the wait is definitely over, the holiday shopping season has finally hit us directly in the face! As much as we adore the holidays, we have to admit, finding the perfect gift for your loved ones can lead to a lot of unwanted stress. This is absolutely where we are hoping to save the day for you all. Friends, the S+S Holiday Gift Guide has arrived. Every week from now until Christmas, we will be featuring a new Holiday Gift Guide for that insanely troubling friend or family member that is impossible to buy for. First on the list: the Holiday Gift Guide for the Design Enthusiast. The girl that has everything and says she needs nothing. We know that you all know someone like this. Incredibly fashion forward. Her style never misses a beat. Her house is charged with patterns, color, uniqueness and flair. What to buy for the design and fashion obsessed? We have got you covered. Allow us to proceed.
Sure, pumpkin and sweet potatoes are awfully yummy. But I think they really get a little too much attention every fall. I, on the other hand, pay homage to my favorite winter squash when the air gets crisp and chilly. Maybe they’re a little more difficult to find, but for me, they’re definitely worth the extra effort to seek out these thick-skinned beauties.
One of the great perks of being affiliated with a magazine that covers many of my favorite activities (eating! drinking! traveling! decorating!) is that I often have the opportunity to explore fun events in great towns around the state. So when my SavorNC partners asked me to cover the Small Place Crawl in Hendersonville, I jumped at the chance. I was born in Hendersonville and raised in Brevard, so being here is almost like coming home.
Jessie Ammons, one of our incredible interns, joins the SavorNC blog today to celebrate the winning wines from the North Carolina State Fair!
Bill Mangum is appropriately nicknamed North Carolina’s artist due to his 3,000 plus art originals mostly dedicated to capturing the beauty of the state. For the past 24 years, Mangum has continued to contribute original paintings for a holiday card. This is not just your average “Seasons Greetings” kind of card, though.
So, we are a week into November and the holidays are now in full force. First on the list: Thanksgiving. What is not to love about this holiday? Great food, great company, great holiday decor. We know that setting a table is not a favorite pastime among most of you all...but it definitely makes our list. A unique tablescape can absolutely set the tone for any event. For our tablescape this year, we have opted for a preppy, understated glam aura. Lots of gold touches but with traditional houndstooth linens. We love the juxtaposition of the two styles married in one look. We have the table ready — now who is bringing the food?
